September 'My Rescue Story'

Meet Abraham | Lab Rescue OK

Read Abraham's story below!

Kathleen writes, "I have always loved labs. My home has always had one or two (or three) labs. The first time I saw a picture of Abraham, I knew he was meant for me. At the time, I was not in the market for a dog. I already had a full house with 3 dogs at home, but I could not stop thinking about that chocolate lab with the sweet grey eyebrows and muzzle. After finding out a little more of his story, I knew I had to bring him home. He was initially in such rough shape, that Abraham was put into a hospice foster home. He looked to be about 14, was incredibly skinny, and covered in fleas and ticks. He was so miserable that he chewed off all of the hair on his back end, which never did grow back. His previous owner left him in the backyard to fend for himself, and he was found by the local Sherif. The sherif then contacted lab rescue, and I am so thankful they did. After a short stay with his hospice foster, he improved enough to be placed for adoption. Lab rescue posted his picture, and the first time I saw his face, I cried. I was sitting at work and a coworker said “Kathleen, you know that you can’t save them all.” The only thing I could say was “I know I can’t, but I can save this one.” Given the condition he was in when, I didn’t think I would have more than a year with him, but I got to love this incredible guy for 3.5 years. In the end, his body failed him and I had to say goodbye, but I still miss him every day. My life has been forever changed because of Abraham."
